In the Call for Teams a registration date and an application deadline were mentioned. These dates have led to some inquiries. The SDE21 Organisation would like to clarify: The deadline for applications was, indeed, the 25th of October, 2019! It is NOT possible to register anymore.

Get ready! Teams are called to rev up for our next edition of the Solar Decathlon Europe, scheduled for 2021, in Wuppertal, Germany!
In support of a growing and collective commitment to energy literacy, the Energy Endeavour Foundation and the SDE21 Organisers will soon begin the selection process of university teams for the upcoming SDE21 Competition. After fantastic Solar Decathlon Europe Competitions in Spain (2010, 2012) and France (2014), and on the eve of the SDE19 in Hungary this summer, the official SDE21 Call for Teams is launched for the SDE21, set for September 2021 in Germany.
Initiated in 2002 by the United States Department of Energy, the Solar Decathlon is the ultimate university-level student competition for resource-responsible and energy efficient architecture and engineering. Twenty teams compete in the design, construction and management of innovative dwellings powered by renewable energy. The demonstration units are brought to the competition site (the Solar Village) & assembled in under approximately 16 days. The site becomes an open forum and exhibition, where the houses are operated and demonstrated to the public, and evaluated by renowned international adjudicators.
The Solar Decathlon in Europe is an intrepid, ingenious and responsible endeavour! The SDE21 Organisation, a collaboration between the Energy Endeavour Foundation and the University of Wuppertal, is seeking teams from post-secondary educational institutions who can deploy & demonstrate the potential of sustainable architecture and engineering, and share these values. The SDE21 will be the first Solar Decathlon Europe that goes urban with a Competition ‘campus’ site in the heart of Wuppertal. The revitalisation of urban building stocks is the key focus of this SDE21. The scope of the Competition centers on the value added renovation, transformation, or reuse of existing apartment buildings for increasingly densified cities.
Teams & their corresponding institutions are welcome to submit proposals which will be reviewed and evaluated based on a specific set of criteria. In the spirit of the original Solar Decathlon U.S, up to eighteen teams will be selected to embark on a nearly two-year project with two missions: to design highly energy efficient dwellings that combine affordability, consumer appeal and design excellence; and to build and operate a representative demonstration unit reflecting those designs.
Deadlines for full submissions are scheduled for October 25th, 2019, 17:00 CET. Teams interested in submitting proposals are invited to download the documentation package below for detailed information.
Team selection will be announced in December 2019.
