Calling European cities! The quest for the Solar Decathlon Europe 2021 host city is on.

The Energy Endeavour Foundation looks forward to inspirational applications from potential host cities for this exciting new SDE chapter. The ultimate international university-level competition for resource-responsible and energy-efficient architecture, the Solar Decathlon Europe competition event is student driven, multi-disciplinary and work-force directed. With an emphasis on innovation, science and technology, the upcoming SDE21 competition will further the objective of raising energy-literacy through this public event in responsible living.

The designated SDE21 Host City will promote the educational, economic, and energy-security benefits of renewable energy, energy efficiency and resource responsibility by demonstrating technologies that can effectively be deployed in our fast-growing and future communities.

Initiated in 2002 by the United States Department of Energy, the Solar Decathlon is a university-level student competition for sustainable, energy-efficient architecture and engineering. Focusing on 10 contests, teams compete in the design, construction and management of individual, solar-powered, and resource-efficient homes. The houses are brought to the competition site (‘solar village’) and assembled within ten days. The site becomes an open forum and exhibition, where the houses are operated, demonstrated to the public, and evaluated by a jury of renowned international adjudicators. An international movement, editions of the Solar Decathlon competition take place in the U.S., Europe, China, Latin America, with upcoming editions scheduled for the Middle East and Africa. Through the SDE competition, thousands of decathletes majoring in architecture, engineering, finance, environmental science are learning by building, developing other skill sets contributing to their future professions, including teamwork, fundraising, project management and communication.
